2 Ways To Test For Mold In Your House

by Rosa Pascual

If you get water damage, you are also going to be at risk of getting mold damage. Mold likes damp, dark, and warmth. That's why you can find mold growing in places like your bathroom walls, behind walls, and under floors. While you might see some of the mold growing at your house, you might not see any of it, depending on where it is growing. If you think that you have mold, you may want to have your house tested for mold. The best way to do that is to call a mold remediation company and have them do the testing. What kind of things will the company do to test your house for mold?

Testing Kits

There are easy testing kits that the remediation company can use when it comes to testing your house. These kits may not be able to tell you if you have toxic black mold, but they should be able to tell you if you do have mold. The way that these kits work is that they have a swab in them. You rub the swab around the area where you think that you have mold, and then rub that on a test strip. If you have mold, the strip will let you know if it is positive for mold.

Petri Dishes

Another way that the mold remediation company can tell if you have mold and what kind of mold you have is to wipe several areas with swabs or pads. Each pad or swab gets rubbed into its own petri dish. Then it is left to grow. It may take a couple of days, but the mold will grow in the dishes, letting the remediation company test to find out what kind of mold you have. The reason that the remediation company needs to know what kind of mold you have is that it will influence how they clean it. Cleaning up toxic mold is going to take more work and more precautions than cleaning other molds will. Those precautions can include isolating the room where the mold is from the rest of the house, and wearing protective gear while cleaning.

If you are worried about mold in your house, then you need to make sure that you get it cleaned. Before anything happens, you need to make sure that you have your house tested so that you know if you do actually have mold or not. Call a company like Disaster Masters to schedule mold testing.

About Me

Deciding How To Tackle A Mess

Although I was out of town during a hurricane storm, my friends told me that my house didn't look good good. Upon my return, I found a flooded basement and an upstairs that was absolutely torn apart. I didn't know what to do, so I turned to damage contractors to put things back together. I can't tell you how happy I am that I made that choice. They carefully evaluated my home and quickly resolved the issues that I had. It was amazing to see the difference they were able to make in a short period of time. This blog will explain why damage contractors are the right people to call.
